Star Vision - The Magic of Youth (featuring Victor Brodén)
'The Magic of Youth' is an 80s-inspired AOR and melodic rock release by Star Vision featuring Grammy Award winning musician Victor Brodén (Transatlantic Radio, LeAnn Rimes, Richard Marx) on fretless bass.
The song was released on 17 April 2026 and added to the official Apple Music 'New in Rock' playlist on the day of release.
The New in Rock playlist is Apple Music’s flagship destination for compiling anthemic, energetic, and newly released rock tracks. It is updated by their editorial team on a weekly basis, highlighting both veteran and rising acts.
About 'The Magic of Youth'
'The Magic of Youth' is a reflection on youth, coming of age, and the decisions we make – and the ones that follow without us even realising at the time. Saying yes to one path often means saying no to another, and only later do we begin to understand how those moments shape where we end up.
The song was originally considered for another artist. In January 2025, when a popular Swedish AOR act was sourcing material for its next album, Scott van Dort was invited to pitch songs and submitted an early demo of 'The Magic of Youth', featuring only vocals and keyboards. Ultimately, the song remained a personal favourite, and van Dort decided to keep it for Star Vision and develop it into the finished recording.
From the moment the song was written, van Dort heard a fretless bass part as an integral part of the arrangement. He immediately thought of Victor Brodén, having become a fan of his playing and musical sensibility after seeing Transatlantic Radio perform at Malmö Melodic festival in the summer of 2024 – the same festival where Star Vision performed at the official afterparty.
Van Dort reached out to Brodén about playing on the track, and he immediately said yes. His fretless bass became an integral part of the finished recording, adding a distinctive melodic voice that helped shape the character of the song.
Musically, the song draws from the sound and sensibilities of 80s-inspired AOR and melodic rock – combining nostalgic textures, cinematic production, and a modern approach to songwriting. It’s a ballad rooted in feeling, memory, and reflection, inspired by the emotional depth and character of classic 80s music.
Following the success of the original release, an alternate version arrived eight weeks later, pairing the original mix with a stripped-back keyboard-and-vocal rendition. In July, the release was expanded once again into a three-track edition, bringing together the original version, the keyboard-and-vocal mix and a new retrowave remix.
