BIOGRAPHY
Star Vision is an electronic pop-rock act and the solo project of Stockholm-based musician Scott van Dort. Born out of nostalgia for the music of the 1980s, Star Vision channels the era into a sound that is familiar yet unique.
For anyone wondering whether there are modern bands making music in the style of the 80s, listeners often describe Star Vision as sitting between modern synth-driven pop and classic melodic pop-rock/AOR, blending lush electronics in the vein of The Midnight and Empire of the Sun with the songwriting and pop-rock sensibilities of Roxette, Bryan Adams, and Richard Marx.
The idea for Star Vision emerged during the pandemic, sparked by reflection on brighter days gone and the music that once filled the radio – songs driven by feeling, long before questions of what was “cool.” What began as an idea became fully realised in 2022, built from memory, sound, and a pull toward the past.
Coming from a family of lifelong travellers, van Dort grew up in Melbourne, Australia, and has lived in six countries before calling Sweden home in 2017. That sense of movement and restlessness informs the music, creating a duality where past and present meet, distance is balanced by memory, and possibility feels endless.
Beginning with the 2023 debut AOR-inspired EP Another Time, Another Place, Star Vision has continued to evolve and refine its sound with each release. The 2024 sophomore EP Four More Reasons Why blended slick pop melodies with album rock, marking a step forward in both songwriting and production. The EP was mixed by Stefan Boman (Roxette, Opeth, kent) at Atlantis Studios in Stockholm, Sweden and mastered by Tony Lindgren (Billie Eilish, Opeth, Sepultura) at Fascination Street Studios.
Star Vision made its live debut in 2024 and, in the summer of that year, was invited to perform at the official afterparty for the first annual Malmö Melodic festival in the summer, where fans from 22 countries gathered to watch top-tier AOR and melodic rock acts like Perfect Plan, Dare, and Remedy.
In 2025, Star Vision embraced a deeper electronic direction. The remake of Lionel Richie’s Running with the Night charted on the Hypeddit Pop Charts, followed by the synthwave-inspired single In The Night, We're Free., continuing the project’s exploration of 80s-inspired synth-pop and melodic AOR sounds.
2026 promises to be a landmark year for Star Vision with two new singles in the early months. High on Love arrives on 23 January 2026, an electronic-pop track that showcases Star Vision’s most fully realized sound to date. Shortly after comes The Magic of Youth, a nostalgic pop-rock anthem featuring Victor Brodén (Transatlantic Radio / LeAnn Rimes / Richard Marx) on fretless bass, further proving that the 80s sound is alive and well today.
Step into a world where yesterday is today and the music never fades.
