'When You Look at Me' is a power ballad, unapologetically inspired by the heartfelt emotion and soaring melodies of 1980s pop-rock and AOR, with artists such as Michael Bolton and Whitney Houston among its influences.

Built around a deliberately simple arrangement, the song places the focus on the vocal and lyric, with piano and classic 80s-style keyboard textures creating a nostalgic backdrop. Rather than relying on a dense production, the space in the arrangement allows the emotion of the song to remain at its centre.
 

Personal and heartfelt, 'When You Look at Me' has also become an emotional moment in Star Vision's live performances, where its stripped-back character and earnest vocal give the song a different dynamic from much of the surrounding material.
 

The track was produced by van Dort and mixed and mastered by Stefan Boman at Atlantis Studios in Stockholm, Sweden. Boman first worked with Star Vision when he mixed the 2024 EP 'Four More Reasons Why', beginning an ongoing collaboration and becoming van Dort's go-to mixer through a shared understanding of the sound and direction of Star Vision.
 

On 9 May 2025, a remix of 'When You Look at Me' was released, introducing drums to the arrangement.
